Keegan Dakkar L.
Telepathic Nest
with Emil Bognar-Nasdor

March 13th - April 20th, 2024

Keegan Dakkar L.’s solo debut, Telepathic Nest, is conceived from seamlessly oscillating between states of intense focus and unconscious thought processes that shape the surreal, psychotropic nature of his work. In this body of work, Dakkar L.’s drawings are an exploration of the sketchbook, where myriad concepts dwell in harmony creating a universe where ideas coalesce and converse in silent collaboration. Disparate ideas in varying stages of both completion and abandon become intertwined and merge into a unified work.
Within these drawings, he is seeing glimmers through to fruition, both conceptually and formally, by re-animating a “moment passed” in an attempt to ‘respect the virility, spontaneity and inhibition of new ideas.’ The lines, shapes and hues in the works are guided by a fluid and concentric force, with marks melting and reshaping, joining figures and ideas together, fibrous and liquid-like from one moment to the next.
Keegan Dakkar L. exhibits his latest graphite drawings alongside works envisioned by long-time friend and artist Emil Bognar-Nasdor in Entrance’s lower level gallery. In an adjacent spirit, Bognar-Nasdor’s re-contextualization of Dakkar L.’s work is at its core a celebration of his uniquely improvisational approach to visual language. Bognar-Nasdor utilizes photographs of tattoos completed by Dakkar L., raw sketch books and photocopies of Dakkar L.‘s body to cultivate a multi- dimensional ‘portrait of an artist,’ including works airbrushed with Bognar-Nasdor’s own blood. Through the prompt of Dakkar L.’s archive as a medium itself, Bognar-Nasdor investigates various pathways within his friend’s work, weaving together the conceptual and material connections between their two practices.

Keegan Dakkar L. (b. 1990, NYC) has cultivated a visual art practice that spans across fine art, illustration, design and tattooing. Primarily drawing with graphite over the past seven years, Dakkar’s signature style emerges from working slowly and steadily, exploring the materiality of graphite with a focus on texture, mark-making and surface quality. Born and raised in Manhattan in the anarchist squatting community of the 90’s, Dakkar’s subjects and style are imbued with the characteristics of the iconic NYC punk scene and his earliest memories of punk shows at squats and running through Tompkins Square Park.

Dakkar L. recently exhibited in a group show at Commune in Tokyo, Japan in 2024. He has designed jewelry and clothing for the Marc Jacobs collection Heaven and a capsule collection for Supreme in 2020. Entrance is happy to present Telepathic Nest, Dakkar’s solo debut in NYC.
